CD REVIEW: SHAKE THE TREE by The Brew

SHAKE THE TREE by The Brew
(Jazzhaus Records)

It's attitude that serves UK based power rock trio The Brew well on their latest release,  'Shake The Tree'. Big riffs, massive grooves, and expansive improvisations. Jason Barwick on guitar and vocals, Tim Smith on bass and Kurtis Smith on LOUD drums. The opening thump of "Johnny Moore" will quickly separate the men from the boys as the trio charges into one of their most potent and pointed songs. The album continues with muscular material such as, "Knife Edge", the title track, the wicked groove of, "Black Hole Soul", "Rock'N'Roll Dealer" and "Ambassador To The Lonely". The thing about 'Shake The Tree' and The Brew in general is that it brings you back to what was truly great about driving rock music before it got taken over by the hair bands. This is rock music that is reminiscent of the past but never imitative and not revisionist. The Brew have crafted, in my opinion, their most dense and representative album yet, filled with powerhouse riffs and explosive melodies you'll be playing air guitar to after the first listen. No-nonsense hard rock with both conviction and diversity, you can't go wrong with 'Shake The Tree'. - Highly Recommended
